Organizations

Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity, invites all interested students to join. The meetings are held at 5 p.m. Sundays in the Adams Center on the second floor.

Announcements

The General Education Competency Examination (GECE -Academic Profile) is a requirement for all students classified as juniors Fall Quarter 1998 and thereafter. All students who have been notified to take the Academic Profile Fall Quarter 1998 and who have not taken the exam should report to take the exam on Nov. 19, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Adams Center Ballrooms.

The Pike County Chamber of Commerce and the Pike Pioneer Museum are co-sponsoring the TSU Homecoming Street Dance 7-11 p.m. Friday at the Pike Pioneer Museum parking lot. General admission is $1. Reserved tables are available by calling the Pike County Chamber of Commerce at 566-2294. The tables seat eight people at $12.50 per seat.

The Troy State University Department of Music will present the fifth annual Madrigal Dinner at 6 p.m. Monday in the Adams Center Ballroom. Everyone is welcome. Tickets are $12.50 per person and may be purchased by calling the TSU music department at 670-3322.

The Pike County Chamber of commerce is sponsoring the annual TSU Homecoming Parade beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday. It will begin on North 3 Notch Street to the square and turn onto Elm Street ending at the Elm Street Brundidge Street intersection. There will be approximately 100-120 units and ten marching bands in the parade. For more information, call 566-2294.

The Chemistry Club has a parking space on the quad reserved for one student. For every dollar donation, a person will receive a ticket to be entered in a drawing to be held Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. in the Quad. The winner will get their own personal parking space on the Quad for all of Winter Quarter. Ticket sales will be held in the Quad on Friday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and on Nov. 13, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information, please check the fliers located around campus.

The Financial Aid staff has implemented customer service cards for students to fill out if they have a formal complaint or just want to tell the staff "Thanks" for a job well done. The staff has also been involved in professional workshops to help with problems that may occur with loans, grant or work study job. Send a written statement to TSU P.O. Box 821429, Troy, AL 36082. The Troy State University Gospel Choir will present its first performance of the academic year at 3 p.m. Sunday in Smith Hall Auditorium as part of TSU Homecoming weekend festivities. This concert is free of charge.

Students who hold an International Student Exchange Identity Card and order a Eurail or Europass from ISE Cards before Dec. 31 will receive a $20 savings on any Eurail or Europass and avoid price increases of 5 percent to 13 percent which take effect Jan. 1. Travel on the passes must start within six months of the date issue. The cost of Eurail passes for students under the age of 26 ranges from $376 for a pass valid for 15 days of unlimited travel to $1,059 for three months of unlimited travel. Students may order passes by calling 1-800-255-8000. All major credit cards are accepted, and passes are sent via Federal Express at no additional charge.

The Alabama Law Institute has three internships available for juniors, seniors and graduate students. The institute will place three students in state government positions during the regular session of the legislature, March 2-May 14. The students will do research and other assignments for the governor, lieutenant governor and speaker of the House of Representatives. Applications are in Adams Center room 233.

Recent recipients of doctoral degrees in the life, biomedical and environmental sciences and related disciplines are eligible to apply for the U.S. Department of Energy Alexander Hollaender Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship Program sponsored by the Office of Biological and Environmental Research. Each fellowship is served for one year and is renewable for up to one additional year. The award is $37,500 for the first year and $40,500 for the second. Research topics include environmental processes and effects, global change research, health effects and biological processes, human and microbial genome research, structural molecular biology, instrumentation for analytical chemistry and medical applications. Fellowships can be served at any national laboratory, university, or private facility as long as the proposed adviser is funded by OBER. Up to 10 fellowships will be awarded this year. All applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of application and must have received the doctoral degree (or M.D. or D.V.M.) after April 30, 1997, or expect to complete all requirements for such a degree before starting the appointment. The starting date must be between May 1 and Sept. 30, 1999. The deadline to apply is Jan. 15, and application forms are required. Greeks

The Collegiate Bookstore is sponsoring "The Greek Gathering," an open house showcasing all new greek merchandise, Friday, Nov. 3, from 3-5 p.m. Purchases up to $25 will receive a 10 percent discount and purchases of $25 or more will receive a 20 percent.

Alabama Shakespeare Festival

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival will hold the Fifth Annual Pioneer Awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Nov. 14. This year the festival is honoring Alabamians who have made historic achievements in the fields of medical science and aeronautics. The awards ceremony is free to the public. Tickets to the performance of "Fair and Tender Ladies," which follows, are available. For information or tickets, call the ASF Box Office at 271-5353.

The Alabama Dance Theatre

The Alabama Dance Theatre will begin its holiday season with "Mistletoe," which will be performed at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. on Nov. 15 at The Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts. Tickets go on sale Monday for $10-$17. General admission tickets will be sold at Eastdale and Montgomery Mall Information Booth and Dancewear etc. Reserved and general admission tickets are available at the Armory Learning Arts Center or by calling the ADT ticket line at 241-2800.
