Current Student Academics

Academic advising in the Hall School of Journalism and Communication is an important service provided to assist you in making progress towards earning your degree.

All HSJC students are assigned an advisor and are required to see their advisors prior to registration. This helps you stay on track in your academic program plus your advisor will remove your advising hold allowing you to register via Trojan Web Express.

Appointment sign up sheets will be posted on your advisor's office door prior to registration. Sign up early for a time that is convenient to you. (Don't miss a class to make or keep an advising appointment.)

To make the most of your advising appointments, remember the following:

  • Always check your Troy University e-mail and the Journalism Lab Web page for important information about student advising.
  • Make an appointment with your advisor. You will find advising schedules on your advisor's door
  • Keep your appointment with your advisor.
  • Be prepared. Review your major requirement prior to your appointment. Students should come to their appointments with a list of classes and then consult with their advisor about how it relates to their majors and goals.
  • Check prerequisites for all classes before meeting with your advisor.
  • Have alternatives. The classes you want may be closed.
  • Be ready to answer questions during your advising session. Your advisor may ask about your academic performance and plans.
  • Always plan ahead during your advising sessions. You will want to map out several terms while meeting with your advisor.
  • Check the deadlines for filing your intent to graduate, internship, etc. before meeting with your advisors.

The academic planning section of Trojan Web Express includes a Program Evaluation option. This allows you to participate in planning your academic program.
