Hall School of Journalism and Communication
Academics

Since opening its doors more than 30 years ago, the Hall School of Journalism and Communication has developed a strong reputation for preparing students in a high quality, academically rigorous, yet relevant, program. This is coupled with real world, hands-on experience that makes the difference when our graduates enter the job market.

Our professors are at the heart of Troy's academic program. They challenge their students to maximize their potential as learners, critical thinkers and clear communicators. The school's innovative and foward-looking programs are able to adopt new technologies and quickly adapt to developments such as globalization. These provide you with the potential to make a significant contribution to the profession and to society. In short, we train future industry leaders to serve with integrity and responsibility.

Our program's academics go beyond the traditional setting. The Hall School students capitalize on opportunities to interact with and learn from an outstanding faculty, industry leaders, a global network of alumni, a close-knit community of classmates and our exceptional student media.

Our focus on the real world opens many doors for our graduates, whether they begin their careers immediately after graduation or go on to graduate school. Graduates from the Hall School of Journalism and Communication are prepared!

Students in the Hall School of Journalism and Communication may major in print, broadcast journalism or communication arts. Public relations, advertising, media performance, photojournalism and sports information contracts are also offered. These contracts fill the requirements of a second major for students whose first major is print or broadcast journalism, and contract students do not need a minor.

Minors in print, broadcast journalism and speech communication are also available. A list of the requirements for majors and contracts is given below.

For more information, see the University Catalog or a member of the journalism or communication faculty. For an appointment, call 334-670-3289. Journalism and communication course information may be found on the Web at: http://jschool.troy.edu/~lab/jrncourses.php.
