The Hall School of Journalism has established the following policies governing the use of the Journalism Laboratory and its machines.1. The following may use the Journalism Lab:
2. Absolutely no smoking, eating, drinking nor chewing in the lab. (Dean Cochran permits bottled water in the lab.) 3. The software on the computers in the Journalism Lab and its documentation are protected by copyright laws. These programs are licensed for use only within the Journalism Lab. Duplication and/or removal of these materials from the laboratory is prohibited by law and Troy University policy. You may not copy any copyrighted software program onto your personal diskettes. 4. Use of the Journalism Lab for work unrelated to journalism classes is discouraged. Anyone using a computer for work not related to a journalism class may be asked to leave if students are waiting with journalism class assignments. 5. Only software approved by the Director of the Hall School of Journalism may be used in the Journalism Lab. Personal software may not be used unless you are given permission to do so by Dr. Padgett. 6. Computer games are strictly prohibited in the Journalism Lab. 7. No personal use of the telephone in the Journalism Lab. 8. Do not rename files on the computers or the file lockers that aren't yours. 9. Do not change the default setting of any computer software on the machines in the lab. 10. Do not use the printers in the lab for duplicating. Print only one copy of your work. 11. Write nothing to the hard drives on the Macintosh computers in the lab. 12. Keep fingers, pen tips and other sharp objects away from the computer's screens. 13. Never move a computer from its assigned desk. 14. Keep book bags, backpacks, books and purses out from under desks and next to chairs. Place these against the wall where the printers are located, on the ledge next to the windows or outside the Journalism Lab in the hallway. 15. Report any computer problem to the instructor or lab assistant on duty. If something is wrong, ask for help. 16. Make sure that you log off your computer when you finish using it. 17. If weather or other conditions force the person in charge of the Journalism Lab to close the lab, students will promptly exit their applications, run the "Shut Down" procedure and switch their computers off. 18. Students are not allowed to use the Journalism Lab without supervision from a journalism faculty member or a lab assistant. Remember, using the Journalism Lab is a privilege and not a right. Anyone not following the rules or abusing his or her lab privileges may be suspended from this lab by Dr. Padgett. |
